10. Phuket, Thailand

Phuket, Thailand

Whether you’re looking for a week or two of pure relaxation, or something more adventurous, Thailand is a safe choice and comes in at number 10 on the list of greatest holiday destinations in the world.

Did you know:
A whopping 70% of Phuket is covered by mountains.

9. Prague, Czech Republic

Prague, Czech Republic

Perfect for loved up couples and groups of friends alike, Prague is sitting pretty at number 9 in the list. With trendy bars and top restaurants galore, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Look out for Prague Castle, the largest in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

8. Siem Reap, Cambodia

Siem Reap, Cambodia

If you’re looking for something more exotic, this might be the one for you. New restaurants, hotels and bars are popping up here, there and everywhere at the moment in Siem Reap, but the ancient temples are still the main event.

DO go for the Buddhist New Year in April, which is celebrated in a big way. But be prepared to get messy, as it’s traditional to throw water and talcum powder.
DON’T expect any special treatment on your birthday, as they’re not traditionally celebrated in Cambodia.

7. Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona, Spain

Barca is the perfect mix of beach holiday and City break, so it’s easy to see how it made it into this list. There’s impressive architecture at every turn and plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from so you’re bound to find something to suit your taste.

Did you know:
Antoni Gaudi was not the original architect to work on the Sagrada Família. Francesc del Villar was commissioned to design it first. He resigned after a year and Gaudi took the reins, completely redesigning it to the magnificent piece of architecture that’s still under construction today.

6. Crete, Greece

Crete, Greece

As the largest of the Greek islands, there’s plenty to see and do in Crete. Whether you fancy relaxing on the beach or visiting the ancient ruins - or maybe a bit of both – you certainly won’t be bored.

Did you know:
Hippocrates claimed that Crete has ‘healing air’, which seems to be true as Cretans have been found to be the healthiest people in the world. Although that’s likely to be down to their diet and lifestyle.

5. New York City, USA

New York, USA

At number 5, it’s the Big Apple. This one really needs no introduction – there are heaps of things to do, see and try in New York, and it’s definitely one to tick off your bucket list.

Don’t miss the whispering gallery in Grand Central Station. Head to the lower concourse outside the Oyster bar and stand in one corner of the archway. Get a friend to stand in the opposite corner and whisper. Trust us, just do it.

4. Rome, Italy

Rome, Italy

Take a trip to the Eternal city for a taste of Italian culture. Eat, drink and be merry in this beautiful City. As they say, when in Rome, do as the Romans do.

DO make an effort to learn some of their language, even if it’s just the basics.
DON’T turn up early for dinner. Italians generally have their evening meal from 9pm onwards, and many restaurants don’t start serving dinner until at least 7pm, so don’t expect an early supper.

3. Paris, France

Paris, France

At number 3, it’s the most romantic City in the world, so pack up your things and head off with your significant other.

Did you know:
The main bell in Notre Dame is called Emmanuel and weighs over 13 tonnes (approximately the same weight as 3 African elephants)

2. London, United Kingdom

London, UK

In second place, it’s our Great Capital, the perfect staycation for those who don’t like to travel too far.

Five things you didn’t know about London:
- Big Ben is the name of the bell, not the clock tower
- It is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament
- Marching troops are ordered to break their step on the Chelsea Embankment and Albert Bridge so the vibrations don't damage the structure.
- Black Cab drivers have to learn 25,000 streets and 20,000 places of interest to qualify as a driver.
- The Millennium Dome is big enough to hold the Great Pyramid at Giza

1. Bali, Indonesia

Bali, Indonesia

It’s taken over as the ultimate luxury holiday destination in recent years and it’s easy to see why. It’s the perfect place for relaxing, exploring, and generally escaping the stresses of modern Western life.

Don’t miss Lovina Beach, covered in black sand from the cooled lava of the Mt Agung volcano.
