Hints and tips to making your home look expensive without breaking the bank
If your home is feeling a bit tired but you’re on a budget, you can still make your home look amazing without breaking the bank. We’ve found some of the best money-saving tips for you to try out this weekend.
Upgrade your bathroom towels
Throw out those old, discoloured and less-than-soft towels and replace them with some new, fluffy, luxurious ones. This small change can really upgrade your bathroom and give it that expensive spa feel for less than £50 pounds.
Swap your throw pillows
Change out your old throw pillows for some colourful and fuller ones to make your living space feel like it’s straight out of an interior design magazine. If you don’t want to replace all your pillows, just buy new crisp and funky covers instead.
Hang up some art
From framed family photos to DIY prints by the kids, an artwork wall can really make your house feel more like a home. The key is knowing how to hang up your picture and making them fit into the space you’ve chosen so keep playing around until it looks just right.
Update old fixtures
You’d be surprised how cheap it is to swap in some old fixtures for some new shiny ones without having to go crazy on the £££s. Door knobs, drawer handles and light switches can become to look quite tired due to daily wear and tear, so you’ll be surprised how much this little change and impact the room.
Throw in a mirror or two
Make your space look even bigger by hanging up some strategically placed mirrors. Using a large or floor length mirror will reflect the room back at you making it feel twice the size – definitely cheaper than adding an extension!
Let in the light
A well-lit room is very important if you want the space to feel inviting. Take care not to block natural light sources, but if that isn’t possible, having good light sources can be a great substitute. Try adding a table lamp and up-lighters around the room to see the difference immediately.
Clean and clutter-free
With many people leading increasingly busier lives, sometimes the cleaning chores fall by the wayside. However, if you put off the dusting one too many times or leave the pile of magazines to grow on the coffee table, your home can start to feel dingy and unloved.
So clear the clutter, give it a good clean and enjoy that ‘new home’ feel again.
Add a centrepiece
You don’t need a special occasion to dress up your dining or side tables. A lovely vase with some freshly cut flowers can really brighten up a room.
